My Consistent Struggle?

Lifecentre is on a church wide fast right now, and so I am giving up…supper. In addition to God doing things in our church community, on a personal level I am looking for a breakthrough in one specific area. It has become quite apparent to me over the past year that this same struggle is consistent in a few different places of my life.

Here is goes…

I communicate better than I lead.

When I say lead, I am referring to myself then others.

I want to qualify and explain that, but it doesn’t matter how you read into it, it only matters that I allow God to transform this part of my life. In fact, its better that I don't try to explain it as that is what I am trying to change.

Just needed to get that out in the open. I can't promise to change it overnight, but know that God is working on me – and I am surrendering.

Happy Fasting.

I pray that whatever you are believing God for will come to pass.

Phenomenal, Pastor. I’ll pray for you while you fast. I, too, am looking for a breakthrough in a specific, like-minded area of leading myself, and being changed in a few areas, and I am trusting God to meet us all, as we really don’t have what it takes. Simply concept – lead yourself – but truly profound. I’ve been teaching Mackenzie about ‘leading herself’, too, and we are all growing with this very concept. Can’t wait for Sunday. Blessings, Nic Huggins

    Morning Pastor Jason,
Just wanted to share a couple of quotes with you.
“Communication is the real work of leadership.”…Nitin Nohria
“The art of communication is the language of leadership.”…James Humes
Appreciating your openness and praying for you. Blessings,
    Shelley

Leadership cannot be learned from a book. It must be learned via experience. I say this respectfully: Quotes from authors are simply words. Belief MUST be backed up by deeds. If you want to better experience the Lord and what he has in store for you (this is directed at everyone) get out and make yourself uncomfortable. Volunteer time with the homeless. Volunteer at a hospital. Spend time at an AIDS hospice. Put yourself in difficult situations then pray for guidance. As Christians we seek comfort way too often. We cannot expect to grow if we continually bury our noses in words/concepts then pat ourselves on the back. Christ didn’t read Bestsellers (again directed at everyone) while sipping a Latte. He got out in the world to live the Word, make other uncomfortable and actually do something so profound we are still talking about it 2000 years later.

  4. Thanks for the feedback…even you too loaner :-) A little preachy, but I think something good in there too.

Your passion leads others whether you realize it or not. I just know that God is going to do something amazing with my own fasting and I am looking forward to it. :)

Sorry – Didn’t mean to come off on a rant. Was just listening to the new song out by Brook Fraser: Hosea’s Wife. The lyrics go: We are Hosea’s wife. We are squandering this life. Using people like ladders and words like “Nice”. That prompted me to think we are letting ourselves off the hook way too much. We shouldn’t be afraid to get in the fight (and it is a fight, always has – always will be till end of days) and get our noses bloodied a little bit. God Bless.

I don’t think you realize how much more your communication has led me than those who first strive to lead and then to communicate. I’ve been to a number of churches in my life, being a classic Pastor’s Kid, and I’ve witnessed a lot of different leadership styles. Yours is the first to resonate with me beyond Sunday, beyond even Monday. When it resonates like that, I take action on it, and therefore am led with that sort of illumination on the path ahead of me.
If you think that your leading can be improved (which, we’re all human, everything can be improved), then I look forward to reaching a new level of following – you and God.

I’d just like to second PK’s comments. Pastor Jay: I look forward to each and every Sunday. I constantly find myself mulling over the talks that are given and looking for pragmatic ways to apply them in my life. As others in this forum have pointed out communication is integral to leadership. Given this I have to say that I look forward every week to growing my relationship with Jesus under the leadership of you and the other Pastors at the LifeCentre.

I read your post a couple of days ago and it has taken me a few days to respond. I am absolutely floored by your honesty and your pursuit to better yourself and help others do the same. It is for this reason (among others: like your uncanny ability to know about the coolest new gadgets before anyone else, to name one) that I have and do consider you to be one of the most influencial people in my life.

  10. Thank you Nicolle, Shelley, Hope, PK, Chris, Eric, and you too Loaner :-) Your words are life to my soul.
