Looking For God?

Last night Lori had a meeting in the basement of our home. I was upstairs with the kids. Just before bed they always ask if they can watch a "little show". I am not sure why it is little seeing as the shows are the same length as when they watch them at 2:30pm?

While they were engaged in their show that is little, I started to read a new book from Nancy Ortberg called Looking For God.

I started, and didn’t stop.

Shortly after midnight I had finished the book.

It has been a  l o n g  time since I have done that.

I loved this book.

It speaks to something I am passionate about in a way that I think only someone who has wrestled enough can do. That something is finding God in both the mundane as much as the miraculous. While that is only one part of the book, for me it was the most engaging aspect.

On a personal level, I feel closest to God not in the moments of wonder, but in the ordinary Friday or Saturday’s at home. When I am watching my kids play, gazing at Lori typing ferociously on her MacBook, or just going out to Starbucks with the family.

It is in those moments mostly where I am overwhelmed with the presence of God.

I guess you can say I am both a fan of this book, and the adventure of finding God in the unexpected journey through tattoos, tofu, & pronouns (you have to read the book to understand that last line).

I am off to see if I can watch a "little show", but before I do that, I am going to order some copies of this book for our cafe store.

Jay you are right Nancy rocks! She spoke at our church 6 months ago. She is a fantastic leader. Her talk on spiritual gifts was second to none.

Looking forward to seeing this book…everyone seems to be looking for God but perhaps many of us are looking too hard!
Perhaps one of your future series Pastor Jay?
