A Revelation of Christ – Through The Eyes of a 7 Year Old

Christ is the reason we celebrate Christmas. That sounds like something typical you will hear at this time of the year. All through the malls and grocery stores, on the radio and television we hear the name of Christ proclaimed loud and clear as a reminder of what Christmas is really all about.

When you have a revelation for the real meaning of Christmas it gives this holiday a profoundly deep meaning. The reason we buy gifts for those we love is one expression of the gift Christ is to us. The reason we come together with family and friends around food and traditional festivities is another expression of our relationship with Christ.

For those who don’t know Christ all it is, is gifts, family and food. Although those things are great if you have money and a nice family who you enjoy spending time with but if for so many Christmas is depressing, stressful, expensive and a really hard time of year. Christmas is a reminder to so many of what they don’t have… the money they don’t have… the friends they don’t have… the broken families relationships… and the hope that they don’t have… Without a revelation of the one who brought us Christmas, Christmas may seem empty or even something to dread.

My son had a revelation of Christ this Christmas. I was volunteering in his class for Christmas craft day. We were at the Christmas card making station and many of the kids were decorating their cards with stars and bulbs and candy canes and Tref says Mommy can you help me make a cross for the front of my card? …Because that is what Christmas is really about. It’s about Jesus and a cross is all about Jesus.

I proudly smiled as I looked around his class and the cultural diversity it has with both students and parents all around from various nations, religions and beliefs at my son Tref shining with the resplendence of God as he boldly proclaims his faith in Christ of which he is so proud of.

He then looks at me and says Mom I just love being a Christian. I saw in that moment he had a true revelation of what Christmas is really about. He realized that the reason he has such joy in this season is because of our Savior coming to the world. He has the privilege of celebrating Christmas because of Christ alone. And at 7 years old he gets that.

Tref and his neighborhood friend were talking about the meaning of Christmas. Tref little friend said Christmas is about love and giving and Tref said your right about that but you just forgot one thing… The Lord…  He really gets it this year and what a revelation it is.

Remember the one who gives you the privilege of celebrating a holiday that may be filled with gifts, friends, family, & food. But even if your Christmas is not filled with gifts, family, friends or food hold on to the one who gave you life.

Jesus Christ was born this day.

Have you had a revelation of Christ this Christmas?

Oh Lori, This is the best gift ever. When our children “get it.” When these precious ones learn to know Him and trust Him. Nothing more special. Yay!
