Summer Vacation – Day Four

Turtle
The kid’s were standing by the side of the lake when they spotted a turtle. They were so excited. Why? Because they (especially the boys) are massive Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle fans. Their excitement dwindled over time and they resumed fishing. In a flash Parker asked me to hold his Batman fishing rod while he went for a pee.

Standing at the end of the dock I felt a good tug on the rod. Bigger than the sun fish that we had been catching all week.

I began to reel "it" in…and low and behold I caught…the turtle.

It was funny, tragic, and odd all in the same moment.

We reeled in the turtle – which was no easy feat when you think of the defense mechanism of a turtle. From there we brought it, hissing and snapping, to Nanna to perform turtle surgery.

After a few stressful minutes the little fella was back in the water and swimming in his happy place.

It was a memory I know we will never forget, and as Tref says, "That is one turtle who is always going to hate our family."

Truer words have never been spoken.
