Light

Light – the energy producing sensation of brightness that makes seeing possible

We were designed to be attracted to light. We need light in order to navigate our lives. Light gives us purpose, it gives us strength, it gives us energy, and it gives us life.

I just love to suntan… I love lying in the sun soaking up the beautiful rays. I love the feeling of that brilliant light on my skin. And there is nothing like natural light. When I am trying to sleep the natural light can be annoying but most of the time it’s great to be able to see. Bright light enables us to see things as they were meant to be. It enables us to see details and intricacies. It opens up the world in a beautiful way.

Matthew 5:14-16 says, "You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

One thing that interesting about light is the various strengths of light. Darkness is darkness. There is no darker darkness than darkness. Dark is as dark as it gets. There are only variations of light. My kids are afraid of the dark so they sleep with a nightlight. My girls are comfortable with a very dim night light in their room with the door closed. But my boys need a night light and the hall light and the bathroom light on with their door wide open. One is comfortable with a very dim light and the other needs a much brighter light to be comfortable.

Our eyes will adjust to whatever light we are given. If we are sitting in utter darkness, our eyes will never be able to see or find anything. We cannot even see our hand in front of our face. But the moment there is even the faintest glimmer of light, whether it be from the moon, from a light in the distance, a candle, a flashlight, whatever it may be our eyes begin to adjust and we can see quite a bit with just a small amount of light.

However, the brighter the light the more clearly we can see. The brighter the light the more details we can see in a room or out side or where ever we are. Our eyes can even adjust to the sun… our eyes can adjust to its brightness. Our eyes have the ability to adjust to both the dimmest glimmer of light and to the brightest clearest sunny day.

Can you see where I am going with this?
