Simulcast 2007

Today Lifecentre hosted The Maximum Impact Simulcast for the sixth year. This was our third sellout in a row. I think we have to up the tickets we purchase for next year’s event.

What I love about hosting the event is the interaction with so many people who are usually never in church. The rough breakdown for us today was over 70% of the crowd was from an unchurched background. They were invited by other followers of Christ, and came together for a great day of leadership development. For events like this, you invite, and we invest.

I think it is essential that if marketplace leaders in our church take the step of faith in bringing their co-workers to a "non-churchy" event that we honour that leap of faith by not being pushy of disrespectful of the manner in which they were invited. Not bait and hook methods allowed. In the six years that we have been doing the event, we have had people give their lives to Christ, but for most, this event is the ice-breaker between staying away from church, and starting the journey once again.

For me, there were three speakers that were brilliant today, all in their unique way:

Tim Sanders
Bill Strickland
Malcolm Gladwell

Each of them had a completely different communication style, and to some extent, content variation. Yet one thing was true for each of them, they all discussed leadership from an others-centered framework. If you ever get the chance to hear anyone, especially take in Bill Strickland’s "slideshow" I don’t care how much the ticket costs, get yourself to that event. It isn’t inspirational, it is life-changing (and I don’t use that phrase lightly)

Loved it today.

Off to rest my tummy. I have some pretty major food allergies, and I must have eaten something that didn’t agree with me today. I was suppose to go to a surprise birthday party tonight for my best friend’s mom – who is a brilliant woman and I was looking forward to attending, so I am sad that I am going to miss the moment :-(

PS. A huge thank you to my entire team that served in such an over-the-top way today. I am very proud of each of you.

Yes, bravo to the team for their heart work! I really loved Bill Strickland. I had to take a second look at a few things in my life. We often think that if we want to change things in the world that we can’t because we’re only one person – what really hit home to me in his talk is – start with one thing you want to do, one person whose life you can invest in, in whatever way you can. It’s not rocket science. For some reason I keep having images of a three legged dog pop into my mind, I wonder why.
