This morning we continued our series on Miracles. It was week two in our series. You can read about last week here.
This week, we discussed Luke 9:1-12. The story where Jesus touches the bind beggar. I could sum up the entire talk in three action words: see, speak, & step. We didn’t use them this morning, but nevertheless, there they are.
See & Speak
So often, like the disciples in this story, we see people in the current state of life. What we often miss, for a variety of reasons, is what is going on, just beneath the surface of their life. The sad truth is that most people only hear good things about them when they are dead. A miracle that we can walk in daily is to see and speak to others not only as they are, but to what they can be in God. Not projecting our plans for their lives, but encouragement that they are, as Chesterton puts it, "furiously loved by God."
Step
Miracles always require faith in taking that next step. Each one of us faces a next step. Something interesting about that step is that next step is always the scariest step to take into the purpose of God for your life.
The man in the story had everything present for a miracle to emerge in his life, yet he did have to take the steps to the pool to wash. 2 John 1:6 says it best…And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands.
It is always amazing to be able to talk about miracles and then extend our faith to see them in our midst. Humbling is probably the better word.
My only "apology" was the dog/poop story. I have no idea how I got on that tangent. I hope you weren’t traumatized.
Here are my notes
if you would like them.
For those of you who asked, the song at the end was called The Guide from the Australian band Borne. Here is the link if you would like to buy it from iTunes. Don’t steal music
