The timing of your fast is important. There is never a great time to fast. There will always be a birthday coming or a party or event around food on the calendar so look at your calendar count out the days, figure out when you feel the best time would be and then stick to it. Remember there is no perfect or convenient time. If you are starting a new job or a change in your schedule or a major life change then it may not be the right time for a fast. You want to choose a time of your life that you are confident that you can carry on your daily responsibilities with as few unknown variables as possible.
Fasting is one of those spiritual practices that are not talked much about and not done often enough. They are truly powerful and will change you in ways that you would not even believe.

Once you decide it is time to fast how do you know what one is for you at that time. I know it is time to take charge and clean up areas that God has his finger on. I have tried to clean up my act other ways but all I have done is shuffle around and make excuses. So because of this, I have not recievesd freedom or peace. I find myself on an emotional roller coaster, happy with a smile to faking it and just existing. Of course freedom has not been reached. So what now? I am pulling down on the word of God and trusting Him to provide a clear direction and word to confirmation. I am going to do somthing difficult for me and that is trust in Him and trust that I am hearing from Him my Daddy, Friend, Partner and Lord King of my life.

Stacey,
If you feel God calling you to fast, He will be fathful to lead you into the rest of the details. And He will be with you while you are fasting.
