Hebrews 12:2
Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
1 John 1:4
We write this to make our joy complete.
Seven interesting firsts about me…
Over the last 5 Sunday’s I have given you interesting facts about the Number Seven, well today I am going to give you some interesting facts about me. These are the first seven "firsts" that came to my mind.
1. My first friend was Lori Walker. She was really short so everyone would call her little Lori (so cute). Guess what they called me? Big Lori, I have had to work through some serious self-image issues because of that nickname.
2. My first encounter with God was at a Sunday School children’s service with Jean Langel, I gave my heart to the Lord that night when I was 7 years old. I was also baptized in water at the age of 7.
3. My first painful rejection from my first boy friend was in 7th grade one week after my 13th birthday. He said I was too tight because I wouldn’t hold his hand.
4. My first job was a cashier at a Commisso’s Food Terminal, a grocery store owned by the Mofia. I was 16 years old. That is if you don’t count cherry picking when I was 13, which is a whole other story.
5. My first time on an airplane was to visit my Grandparents in Naples’s Florida when I was 16. It was a blast relaxing for a week with all the seniors. It’s where I found out what a flirt my Opi was. All the ladies called him Hansy Baby and it would drive my Omi into a jealous rage.
6. My first time in Europe was with a Jason. We went to England to network with Billy Kennedy. It was in 1999. We also got to see Delirious play, went to Tim Jupp’s house for a small group and got invited to have an "Indy" with them. It was the first and last time I have eaten Indian food, although I loved it. Chicken Korma.
7. My first Missions trip was one of the most amazing experiences of my life. I loved everything from the people to the work, to the teamwork of our team, to the experience of another culture. I loved the kids, I loved the ministry, and I loved the hospitality. Rod and his team were incredible, even the 4am prayer times and the hike up Jarabocoa. I hope to lead a team of women to Africa for a Missions Trip soon.
Name one of your firsts…

Those are really neat things. I didn’t know that Commisso’s was owned by the mafia. I think there are a lot of things in that area that are mafia owned. My step Dad did some furniture repairs at a Hotel at the Falls, and that was so mafia. I bet the Welland Canal is full of cement shoes!
I would love to go to Africa on a Missions trip. That would be so amazing.
BTW..What time do you get up???
Oh yeah, Stuart makes an awesome Indian Curry (korma) The next time we make it I will deliver some to you! We went to some really good Indian places in England.
I remember my first time skiing. It was with my school and I got lost and cried. It was in grade 4. I swore I would never ski again, but my Mom kept me going and I loved it.
My cousin lived with us when I was young and her name is Susie. So, I was little Susie and she was Big Susie. I sometimes still call her that without thinking. Anyway, always being called Little Susie is cute but it also has its negative effects… I sometimes think people still view me as Little Susie-cute, but not to be taken seriously.
I’d love to go on that Missions trip to Africa too…can you wait until Violette is weaned?
No kidding Sarah…what time did you get up today Lor??
Sarah,
Mmmmm I would love to try Chicken Korma again.
I love to Ski too, at least I used to, I haven’t skiied in about 8 years. Oh man, one of those things that being a Mother has forced me to give up.
Wow really,Ahhh the team is starting to unfold.
Would it be so amazing?
Susie,
You have to admit that is much nicer to be called Little Susie when you are young, Big means fat to most people and mind you, now that I think about it, little does mean young eh?
Wow, I never thought of the other side before.
Susie,
You are #2 on the team then. Wow, could you imagine us all in Africa together. It’s excited me so much. Could you imagine our poor husbands at even the thought of it:( We would have to go for at least 2 weeks. I think we can wait until Violet is weaned:)
I time posted last night!
I was always Little Lindsay – there was never a big Lindsay, weird eh. It took a long while to loose that adjective too!
Lor, I loved going on that missions trip with you, every single minute of it! DR was great, but I think the funniest ‘first’ was in NYC, hanging out a van door to catch a better glimpse of the hookers. (remember?)
You really should do a trip to Africa. I am sure it would be amazing! Also, I vote for a second trip to Europe to come and visit me!
I am trying to think of a more serious first to post. Hmmm, it is almost 3 in the morning and I can’t sleep because I insisted on a coffee on the beach this afternoon.
I had a stalker one morning in Rabat. That was a scary first in which I ended up approaching a police officer (as he was off duty) with a terror-stricken face and a french/english dictionary in my hand. Wow. FYI: the word stalker isn’t included in pocket sized language reference materials. It all turned out ok, at least the police officer laughed!
Lindsay,
Oh that is funny. I don’t really remember the hooker thing. Did we find any? I remember wanting to find a real crack house, I have still never seen one:( But now I don’t think I want to. I get it now, it would break my heart.
Stalker doesn’t translate eh? Only you Lindsay.
Hi Lori,
Please include me on your mission trip to Africa. That is one of my dreams. I know it will happen (someday). I want to wait until Maya is older before I go.
It was wonderful talking with you at the Superbowl party tonight.
Enjoy the rest of your evening.
Shelley,
This is so neat for me. Can you imagine if this is the team forming right now. You are #3 on the team.
I think it would be incredible.
It was nice talking with you too. I had fun last night.
Mission trip to Africa is also one of my dreams. I would love to go too.
I love indian food even though I very really have it. YUM
Donna,
Oh Wow, this is so neat… You are #4 interested to be on the Africa team!
You wanted to see a real crackhouse? Oh Lori, I laughed so hard when I read that. Can you tell from the outside if they are crack houses? If you found one you could probably kill two birds with one stone and see the hookers too. There are hookers and crackhouses in Ottawa too I am sure, although I can’t say I have ever seen them!
sarah,
Yup, And no you can’t tell from the outside, Who knows I might live beside one:)
Actually my neighbors are Mormon… are Mormons allowed to do drugs?
Just joking, I know they don’t do drugs. I wonder if any of my neighbors are on crack?
