Change of Pace

I love to read. When reading I most often gravitate towards books on leadership or church structure, but over the holidays I intentionally change the pace of my reading. I do less of it. As well, I read biographies. I have tried to read novels, but just can’t get into them. I don’t know why? Lori keeps asking me to read some Francine Rivers stuff, and it isn’t that I won’t, it is just I can’t get into reading novels. The only novel I have ever plowed through was this one, and I think it was more due to the season of life I was in than anything else.

Here are the two books I am loving digging into over the holiday break.

Driven_1
Driven From Within: Michael Jordan
The book is less about basketball and more about brand integrity. It is amazing to read all the elements that when on behind the scenes. The truth of this or any story is that "thing could have been so different". A choice here or there, and you don’t have jumpman or the Air Jordan brand with NIKE.

Guide_1A Hand to Guide Me: Denzel Washington
Legends & Leaders Celebrate the People Who Have Shaped Their Lives
I love his passion for young people. He is the national spokesperson for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The idea of this book was to compile 72 personal inspirational stories of people and the hands that guided them toward success. Some of the names you will recognize, others you will not. What I love about this book is that it does a great job of smashing the myth of self-made men or women.

Happy Holidays and reading everyone.

What do you do during the holidays to change the pace of your life?
